Jessica Mbalu Nduku Kiko is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament for Kibwezi East Constituency in Makueni County under the Wiper Democratic Movement–Kenya (WDM-K).

Early life and education

Jesicca Mbalu was born on 23 August 1976 in Kibwezi, Makueni County, Kenya.

She began her formal education at Ituumo Primary School, where she studied from 1982 to 1988, completing her primary schooling.

She then attended Muvuti Secondary School from 1989 to 1992, earning her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

After completing secondary school, Mbalu joined the University of Nairobi in 1993, pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Option), which she completed in 1997.

Demonstrating a commitment to advanced studies, she returned to the University of Nairobi for a Master of Business Administration (Strategic Management) from 2003 to 2005.

Currently, she is undertaking a PhD in Strategic Management at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a program she began in 2022, while simultaneously fulfilling her parliamentary responsibilities.

Professional career

Jessica Nduku Mbalu began her professional journey in 1994, following the completion of her initial training in finance and accounting.

From 1994 to 1995, she worked as a Certified Public Accountant trainee at Kenya Polytechnic, gaining practical experience in accounting procedures and financial management.

She then joined Hotel Amenities (East Africa) Limited as an Accounts Assistant from 1998 to 2003, where she managed bookkeeping, reconciliations, and day-to-day financial operations.

Following this, she moved to Jesmut Investments Limited, where she served as a Finance and Marketing Officer from 2003 to 2009, combining financial oversight with strategic marketing responsibilities.

In 2009, Mbalu joined Prime Bank Limited as a Cash Officer, a position she held until 2010, where she handled cash operations and ensured accuracy in financial transactions.

Between 2010 and 2012, she worked simultaneously as a Finance Consultant at the Water Services Trust Fund and as a Part-Time Lecturer at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, demonstrating her ability to balance consultancy and academic roles while building expertise in finance and management.

Political career

Jessica Nduku Mbalu entered active politics in March 2013, when she successfully contested the Kibwezi East Constituency parliamentary seat under the Wiper Democratic Movement–Kenya (WDM-K).

In the 2017 General Election, Mbalu contested for re-election but was unsuccessful, temporarily leaving Parliament.

Despite this setback, she continued to engage in political and community initiatives in Kibwezi East, strengthening her support base and maintaining visibility in local governance and development matters.

Mbalu made a political comeback in the August 2022 General Election, successfully regaining her seat as Member of Parliament for Kibwezi East Constituency under the Wiper Democratic Movement–Kenya (WDM-K) banner.
