Moses Otieno Kajwang’ is a Kenyan politician and the current Senator for Homa Bay County under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
Early life and educational background
Moses Otieno Kajwang’ was born on February 2, 1979, in Homa Bay County, in a family deeply rooted in public service.
His late brother, Gerald Otieno Kajwang’, was a prominent politician who served as a Member of Parliament and later as a Senator for Homa Bay County before his passing in 2014.
Kajwang’ received his primary education at Lang’ata Road Primary School in Nairobi, where he was recognized as the best student in the 1992 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
Kajwang’ pursued higher education at Moi University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Sciences in 2002.
During his time at Moi University, he was actively involved in student leadership and served as the Secretary General of the Moi University Students Organisation (MUSO). Kajwang also served as the Chairman of the Students’ Elections Board and the Treasurer of the Information Sciences Students Association.
He also served as a student representative in the university senate.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Kajwang’ furthered his education at Makerere University in Uganda, where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology in 2007 and a Master of Information Technology in 2009.
In 2016, he enrolled in the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program at the Management University of Africa.
Career
Professional Career
Moses Otieno Kajwang’ began his career in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector after completing his education.
From 2005 to 2006, he worked as a Systems Administrator at UAP Insurance in Kenya.
In 2006, he moved to UAP Insurance Uganda, where he served as the ICT and Quality Assurance Manager until 2011.
During this period, he was responsible for overseeing the company’s IT infrastructure and ensuring the quality of its services.
In 2011, Kajwang’ returned to Kenya and joined UAP Holdings as a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Project Manager, a role he held until 2012. He later became the IT Lead for Kenya at DHL Supply Chain, serving from November 2012 to August 2013.
From September 2013 to December 2014, Kajwang’ served as the Assistant General Manager of Information Technology at ICEA LION General Insurance.

In this role, he was tasked with implementing and managing information systems within the General Insurance division.
Political Career
Moses Otieno Kajwang’ joined politics following the untimely death of his elder brother, Gerald Otieno Kajwang’, who had served as Homa Bay Senator until 2014.
In February 2015, Moses was elected Senator for Homa Bay County in a by-election held on February 12, 2015, on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
He was re-elected in the 2017 and 2022 general elections, each time on an ODM ticket.
During his tenure in the Senate, Kajwang’ has served on several committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Committee, and the Roads, Transportation and Housing Committee.
He is also the Convener of the Senate Climate Change Caucus and has represented Kenya at international forums such as the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
