The son of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Raila Odinga Junior, has revealed that his father’s signature Hummer has been restored.
In a statement on June 2, Raila Junior said he plans to eventually take the vehicle to a museum but has invited Kenyans to view it first.
“A story of Restoration, my initial Idea was to take it to the museum, though I’d love it for Kenyans to interact with it before I do,” he said.

The restoration has sparked reactions online, with Kenyans sharing nostalgic and emotional responses:
Fredrick Odero noted that the vehicle “was the talk in every village during the 2007 campaigns,” recalling its prominence during the political season and linking it to the famous “Pentagon” era.
Collins Omondi suggested that the Hummer should be first brought to the ground for public viewing before being dispatched to a museum.
“Bring the machine first to the ground before dispatching it to a museum,” Collins commented.

Johnson Owiti urged that it should remain in use, saying it “makes us feel the warmth of Baba,” in reference to Raila Odinga’s political legacy.
Vincent Giliano appealed to Raila Odinga Junior not to retire the vehicle to a museum but instead allow it to continue featuring in iconic political rallies.
“Raila Odinga Junior, please don’t museum it let run for iconic rallies,” Giliano commented.

Iconic Campaign Hummer to Be Preserved in a Museum
In December 2025, Raila Junior had revealed plans to restore his father’s signature Hummer and preserve it as part of Kenya’s political history.
He said that after restoration, the vehicle will be taken to Kang’o Ka Jaramogi mausoleum, where his father was laid to rest.
The Hummer was acquired ahead of the 2007 General Election. It was reportedly donated to Raila’s campaign by supporters, including businessman Don Bosco Gichana.
At the time, Raila’s longtime aide Silas Jakakimba welcomed Junior’s decision, reflecting on the vehicle’s early role in the campaign.
In his reflections, Jakakimba revisited how the Hummer entered the campaign circle, recalling his encounter with Don Bosco Gichana, who later donated the vehicle.
Silas also praised Raila Junior’s plan to preserve the vehicle, describing it as timely and appropriate.
He noted that the move would help future generations connect with a key chapter in Kenya’s political history.
