At least six people have been killed in a road accident involving a bus operating under Naboka Sacco which plunged into the Mbagathi River, near the Cooperative University of Kenya in Karen.
According to preliminary reports, the vehicle was ferrying passengers from Gataka in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado North to Nairobi when the driver lost control and plunged the bus into the river.
In a statement, the Kenya Red Cross noted that thirteen people were rushed to hospital after sustaining severe injuries.
Also, the humanitarian organization detailed that the minibus lost control and overturned near Hardy Police Station in Karen.
“Thirteen people have been rushed to hospital after a PSV minibus lost control and overturned near Hardy Police Station in Karen.
“The minibus lost control and overturned, prompting a swift emergency response. Emergency response efforts continue thanks to the County Government,” Kenya Red Cross stated.

Videos shared online showed witnesses and well-wishers gathered at the scene as some attempt to break open the front door of the bus.
The upper part of the bus was completely detached from the impact of the accident, and all hands were on deck as the witnesses attempted to turn over the bus which had landed on its roof.
Separate Recent Matatu Accident in Nairobi
Earlier on May 11, several casualties were reported following a matatu accident along Jogoo Road, involving a Forward Travelers Sacco bus.
Preliminary reports indicated that the vehicle was heading towards Nairobi CBD from Kayole. While taking a U-turn at the BuruBuru Exit, it overturned.
The incident was among a number of traffic accidents that have been reported recently leading to casualties and even fatalities.
On May 4, three people were confirmed dead following a grisly road accident along the Nakuru – Eldoret highway.
The accident occurred at the Sobea area near Nakuru Teachers College involved a Passenger Service Vehicle (PSV) 14- seater matatu and a truck. According to a police report, the accident happened after the PSV matatu collided head on with the trailer.

Latest NTSA Statistics on Accidents
According to the latest data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 7,198 Kenyans had been involved in roads accidents, between January and April 2024.
NTSA revealed that among the Kenyans involved in accidents during the period, 1,189 died from the accidents while 3,316 were seriously injured following the accidents.
Additionally, because of the surge in the incidents of road crashes, NTSA began a comprehensive operation aimed at raising awareness on road safety, particularly.
The initiative seeks to educate both the public and stakeholders within the transport industry on the importance of adherence to safety regulations to mitigate the alarming rate of accidents on Kenyan roads.
