Airtel Kenya has acknowledged ongoing disruptions affecting transfers from its Airtel Money service to Safaricom’s M-Pesa platform, following user complaints on social media.
On Sunday, May 11th, a user on Facebook expressed her frustration with the service, describing failed attempts to send money from Airtel Money to M-Pesa.
In response, Airtel Kenya has confirmed the issue and assured customers that the company was working to resolve it.
“We acknowledge the issue affecting Airtel Money services and are working to resolve them as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you in advance for your patience,” the company said in a public reply.
Airtel has not disclosed the cause of the disruption or a timeline for service restoration.
The issue comes amid growing reliance on mobile money services in Kenya, where millions depend on platforms like Airtel Money and M-Pesa for daily financial transactions.

“At Airtel, we are committed to providing innovative solutions that enhance our customer experience.”
This service, which offers Airtel smartphone and feature phone customers real-time alerts for suspected spam SMS messages, requires no additional application downloads and is automatically activated for all Airtel customers.
On the other hand, Communications Authority of Kenya CEO David Mugonyi said that this innovation will prioritise consumer safety.
“This is a solution that prioritises consumer safety, enhances trust in mobile communication services, and makes life difficult for cybercriminals. Every day, thousands of Kenyans receive unsolicited messages that present a series of risks to their finances, security, and privacy. Kenya is ranked third in spam texts globally,” Mugonyi stated.
