Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has promised jobs to the youth as he takes over the Ministry of tourism and wildlife.
In his speech on 11th of October 2023, the CS acknowledged the need for employment among the Kenyan youth.
“Our young men and women need jobs now more than ever before in the face of global economic slump. We need to re-engineer our Ministry to focus on job creation now, not tomorrow,” Alfred Mutua said in his speech.
Additionally, CS Mutua said the tourism and wildlife sector can create many job opportunities adding that he aims to encourage innovation and new ideas in the ministry.

“Innovative ideas from all stakeholders are key to unlocking the great potential in our Ministry. We welcome all ideas that will help us improve the quality of life for common mwananchi,” added the CS while reiterating his aim to better the tourism sector.
Furthermore, he expressed the need for new ideas that will catapult the ministry to a higher level.
“To be effective within a short time, as you know I am ChapChap, we will need to think exponentially, and not in a linear fashion,” Mutua noted.
“Our people are hungry. We do not have the luxury of time,” he added.
Other Promises by CS Alfred Mutua
Alferd Mutua went on to promise the restructuring of the tourism sector.
He noted the need to push for domestic tourism, shopping, medical and relaxion for Africans.
Moreover, the CS added that Africans do not need to go to the Middle East, Europe, or Asia for shopping but can instead visit Kenya for the same services.
In his reign, CS Mutua stated that the Ministry of tourism is set to be a top foreign exchange earner.
He said this will be through diversifying Kenya Tourism sector by including all forms of tourism such as medical tourism, and sports tourism.
“We will explore and create new tourist attractions and pathways for domestic and international tourists,” he stated.
The Cabinet Reshuffles
Alfred Mutua will now head the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife taking over from his predecessor CS Peninah Malonza.
This is after President William Ruto reshuffled his cabinet on October 5th, 2023.
Alfred Mutua formerly headed the Foreign Affairs Ministry. However, after the cabinet reshuffle, the foreign affairs ministry was folded into Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi’s leadership.
Accordingly, former CS for Tourism, Peninah Malonza was moved to the Ministry of EAC, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (Asals) and Regional Development.
She takes over from CS Rebecca Miano who was moved to the Ministry of Trade and Investment.
Notably, the ministry of Trade and Investment was formerly headed by CS Moses Kuria who, after the cabinet reshuffle, was moved to the Ministry of Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management.

Consequently, Musalia Mudavadi now doubles as Foreign and Diaspora Affairs cabinet secretary and the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
“The changes were necessary, to optimize performance and enhance delivery as set out in the administration’s manifesto,” President Ruto said on the cabinet reshuffle.
