President William Ruto has built a business portfolio in agriculture, real estate, hospitality, insurance, and other investments, with several properties and companies linked to him and his family.

Public records, parliamentary disclosures, and statements made by Ruto himself have provided details of some of his interests.

The president has also denied owning some assets listed by government officials.

Sugoi Farm and Other Land Holdings

One of Ruto’s best-known investments is his agricultural enterprise in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County. The estate is associated with large-scale poultry and crop farming covering hundreds of acres.

Ruto himself said in 2021 that his poultry operation had about 200,000 chickens and produced approximately 150,000 eggs a day, generating about KSh1.5 million in daily sales at the time.

Ruto has also been linked to several large farms and land parcels. A 2021 government briefing attributed to him included Murumbi Farm in Trans Mara, Narok County, and Mata Farm in Taita Taveta.

The same briefing listed extensive agricultural and residential properties associated with the then-deputy president.

However, Ruto denied owning the 15,000-acre ADC Mutara Ranch in Laikipia County, saying the government had incorrectly included it among his assets. He also rejected claims that he owned Nairobi’s 680 Hotel and Hotel Boulevard.

Hotels and Real Estate Investments

Weston Hotel along Lang’ata Road in Nairobi has for years been one of the businesses most closely associated with Ruto. Earlier records and reports linked Ruto, his wife Rachel and daughter Charlene to the hotel and companies connected to its ownership. The property has also been at the center of a long-running dispute over the land on which it stands, with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority arguing the land was public property reserved for aviation purposes.

The ownership position changed in 2025 when Ruto’s name was removed from the latest list of Weston Hotel directors and shareholders, while Rachel Ruto and Charlene Ruto remained listed.

The family has also been linked to Dolphin Hotel in Shanzu, Mombasa. Earlier reports put the cost of its construction at about KSh600 million and described it as an expansion of the family’s hospitality interests.

Other property interests reported over the years include residential and commercial developments associated with companies such as Matiny Limited and other real-estate entities. Reports have also linked the Ruto family to Osere Flats and Easton Apartments, although these should not automatically be classified as assets personally owned by the president.

Insurance, Shares and Other Investments

Ruto and his family have also had interests in the insurance sector through Africa Merchant Assurance Company, commonly known as Amaco.

Business Registration Services records reported by Business Daily showed the Ruto family held 190,000 Amaco shares, representing 15.83% of the insurer, through Yegen Farms Limited as of October 25, 2024.

The shareholding had increased from the 50,000 shares held through Yegen in July 2022.

Ruto had previously held shares in Amaco but later transferred those interests to another company.

Ruto has also publicly disclosed investments in listed companies. In 2021, he said he owned 400,000 Safaricom shares, while later reports cited his disclosure of 80,000 Kenya Airways shares. At the time, he said the Safaricom investment generated dividends and was among the assets omitted from a government listing of his properties.

The president is also linked to helicopters and hangars at Wilson Airport, through companies associated with his business. A 2021 government briefing claimed that five helicopters and two hangars were among the assets linked to him.
