President William Ruto’s Kilgoris ranch in Narok County is a large private property with a history dating back to the 1970s, when it was associated with former Vice President Joseph Murumbi.
Located about 23 kilometers south-west of Kilgoris in Trans Mara, the property is known as the Intona Ranch.
Historical records show that the property was registered in connection with Murumbi in 1977, while parliamentary records have placed the larger Intona property at approximately 900 acres.
Over the years, the property has been developed into a substantial agricultural and residential estate.
The ranch features a large residence, expansive grounds, livestock facilities, staff accommodation, and an airstrip. Its location in the Trans Mara area also places it within the Maasai Mara region.
History of the Kilgoris Ranch
The history of Intona Ranch is closely connected to Joseph Murumbi, who served as Kenya’s second Vice President between 1966 and 1967.
It was developed as a private agricultural and residential retreat where Murumbi and his family could spend time away from Nairobi.

The ranch included a substantial family residence together with other facilities associated with its agricultural activities. The property has retained its agricultural character over the years, with farming and livestock activities forming an important part of its use.
The ranch now serves as one of his private retreats outside Nairobi.
The house, which has historical links to the original Intona Ranch, has been developed over the years and is a 35-room residence.
The ranch also has an airstrip, providing direct access to the property.
The property is particularly suited to cattle keeping, with beef cattle forming part of the ranch’s agricultural activities.
Ruto Kilgoris Retreat and High-Profile Guests
Beyond its agricultural activities, the Kilgoris ranch has become one of President Ruto’s preferred private retreats.

The President has spent time at the property with his family, particularly during holiday periods, and the ranch has also provided a private setting for meetings with prominent guests.
Ruto has on several occasions been photographed at the ranch undertaking agricultural activities with members of his family.
Recently, the President spent part of two consecutive weekends at the expansive farm, where he was also pictured inspecting cattle and interacting with calves.
Among the high-profile visitors associated with the property is Ghanaian President-elect John Dramani Mahama, whom Ruto hosted at his Kilgoris home in December 2024. Former Prime Minister the late Raila Odinga was also present during the meeting.
The discussions covered areas including Kenya-Ghana relations, trade, agriculture, mining, tourism, oil and gas, and intra-African trade.
Moussa Faki Mahamat, the former Chairperson of the African Union Commission, has reportedly visited Ruto at the Kilgoris residence.
