A businessman escaped police arrest as a multi-agency team from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) stormed rental houses in Mwamogeza Village, Kisii County.
The Wednesday afternoon operation, carried out in Kiamuasi Location, Daraja Mbili sub-location, uncovered a haul of illicit substances hidden in various apartments.
According to Nicholas Kosgei, the Head of Operations at NACADA, the move was part of a bigger nationwide operation targeting rental houses where drugs are sold from.
Moreover, the team discovered a huge consignment of suspected cannabis sativa worth millions.

Details of police crackdown on bhang dealers in Kisii county
According to the police, they received a tip off from an anonymous member of the public and immediately stormed the estate.
Further, the team recovered seven 50kg sacks, four 90kg sacks, and two large carrier bags filled with the banned drug.
“We received a tip off from a member of the public that there was a drug baron in this area. We came very fast and conducted a search in all these apartments and found large amounts of cannabis sativa, “Kisii Police Commander Ronald Kirui said.
However, the prime suspect, a well-known figure in Kisii’s narcotics trade, managed to escape before the officers arrived.
Authorities have branded him a high-priority fugitive, vowing to track him down and dismantle his entire network.
“To the suspect at large, we know you, we know where you work from, and we are coming for you. You are destroying the lives of young Kenyans,” warned Nicholas Kosgei, the Head of Operations at NACADA.
Despite Nyabira’s escape, three suspects were arrested during the operation and will be charged as investigations continue.

More Estate Raids Coming
At the same time, NACADA’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eradicating narcotics from communities.
NACADA is now calling on residents to report suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking.
“We are not relenting in our pursuit of drug barons, their merchants, and distribution networks. This seizure is a testament to our resolve. We will hunt down every individual profiting from the destruction of our youth and communities,” he stated.
The operation is part of an intensified national crackdown on narcotics, with authorities promising more raids in identified hotspots across the country.
