Catherine Kamau, popularly known as Kate Actress, is a Kenyan actress, a social media influencer, and an entrepreneur known for the iconic roles she has played in different films and TV series.

Kate was born on February 3, 1987, in Nyahururu, where she grew up as the firstborn of her family.

Early Life and Education

She did her secondary education at Chogoria High School, which is in Chogoria, Tharaka-Nithi, Kenya, where she was an active member of the drama club, nurturing and showcasing her talent.

Later, she went to Loreto Convent Msongari in Nairobi and completed her high school education.

During her time in Loreto, she gained recognition after being crowned the winner of the Miss Msongari Pageant.

Catherine went to Multimedia University, where she did a Diploma in Mass Communication, majoring in Public Relations.

Initially, she enrolled in an accountancy course at KCA University and realized it wasn’t her passion, so she later joined Makerere University in Uganda.

Acting Career

Kate Actress started her acting career in 2008 when she was 21 years old.

She gained prominence with her role as Celina in the Kenyan TV series Mother-in-Law on Citizen TV; she was part of the cast for eight years.

In 2017, she was featured in the Swahili language TV series, Sue na Jonnie, which was aired on Maisha Magic East, where she brought the character Sue to life.

Family

Catherine is a mother to two children; her firstborn, Leon Kamau, was born when she was 19 years old and still at Makerere University.

Her second-born baby, Baby K, was born on December 15, 2019.

She was previously married to Philip Karanja, a film director, producer, actor, and podcaster, popularly known as Phil.

They met on the set of Mother-in-Law, where Phil was the director. On November 17, 2017, they got married, and later they announced the end of their nearly six-year marriage on September 19, 2023

Entrepreneurship and Influence

Kate launched her own beauty brand called House of Humba in May 2022 which later came to a pause due to hurdles like high importation costs, shipping scam, and slim profit margins among others.

In an interview with Kenyan Vibe, Kate emphasized that the pause was not an end but a necessary phase of growth that will allow her to strategize again and equip herself with better financial skills to run the business effectively.

She also serves as a social media influencer and brand ambassador for companies like Harpic Kenya, Nice and Lovely lotion, and Petroleum Jelly.

Through her social media presence and candid discussions about her life, especially motherhood, she is always engaging with her fans.
