Charlene Ruto, the daughter of President William Ruto, has reached out to the youth amid the ongoing anti-government protests sweeping across the nation.

In a statement on July 3, Charlene revealed that she had convened a meeting with the presidents of all 47 County Student Associations.

During the gathering, Charlene emphasized her long standing commitment to working alongside young leaders.

“Today I was welcomed by 47 presidents of 47 county student associations, some of whom I have been working with for the past almost 2 years kwa ground, to participate in their agreement as young leaders,” she said.

Also, she emphasized the importance of constructive engagement and urged the youth to be known for their innovation in governance and civic participation.

“This is indeed what I encourage – constructive engagement. Let’s be the generation that’s known not just for its passion, but for its innovation in governance and civic participation.”

“A young Kenyan passionate about our country’s future,” she said.

Additionally, Charlene in her speech acknowledged the various challenges faced by the youth, such as unemployment and the rising cost of living.

“I hear your voices and understand your concerns. The challenges we face as a generation are real and pressing; from unemployment to the rising cost of living, we are all feeling the impact of our current economic situation,” she said.

Against Protests

The ongoing protests, largely led by Generation Z, have been sparked by the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Charlene Ruto expressed the collective stance by the youth leaders condemning what she termed as the “chaotic” and “leaderless” protests.

“Peace is something that has been far from us in recent days. It is something that we are praying for and leading the front in attaining as young people.”

“This is why we stand against the particular protests that have shown no leadership from young people but rather a push from dark forces to create chaos in a country that we so love,” said Charlene.

Despite the challenges, Charlene urged the youth to use their voices and platforms constructively to promote peace across the country.

Charlene also expressed her willingness to listen, learn, and work alongside the youth to find solutions for the country.

“I am here to listen, learn and work alongside you. I am here for you.” said the First Daughter.

Charlene Defends Ruto

Earlier, Charlene had defended her father’s administration, stating that President Ruto holds the best interests of Kenyans at heart.

“As a president’s daughter, I have no doubt in my mind, watching my father rise in politics for over 30 years, seeing his work and passion behind the scenes, that he truthfully holds the best interests of Kenyans at heart,” she said.

Her comments came just days after President Ruto extended an olive branch to the youth of the country, expressing that his government was ready to engage with them and find solutions to the various issues affecting them.

“We are going to engage the youth and have conversations so that we can identify your issues,” said Ruto.
