Charles Nyachae is among the shortlisted candidates for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson position.
Nyachae has an extensive legal career spanning several decades and has built a reputation as a distinguished legal professional.

He is the chairperson of the council of the Kenya School of government (KSG), a position he was appointed by President William Ruto in January 2024.
He served as a judge of the Arusha-based at the East African Court of Justice (EACJ), First Instance Division from 2018 to 2024.

Nyachae is the son of the late Simeon Nyachae, a former powerful Cabinet Minister and leader of the FORD People Party.
Charles Nyachae Professional Career
His legal career began in 1983 when he was called to the Bar of England and Wales at Lincoln’s Inn.

He was later admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1986. In the same year, the young Nyachae founded Nyachae & Company Advocates.

Nyachae has also held several key positions in Kenya’s legal and governance sectors.
He served as the Chairperson of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (2010–2015) and as a Commissioner at the Kenya Law Reform Commission (2003–2006).
Charles Nyachae also played a pivotal role in implementing the Constitution, entrenching the institutions created by the Constitution and safeguarding and promoting democracy in the country.
Additionally, he was the Chairperson of the Institute of Education in Democracy between 1999 and 2003 for a period of five years.
He also served as the Chairman of the International Commission of Jurists, Kenya Section- from 1991 to 1993 and a Council Member of the Law Society of Kenya between 1991 and1992.
Earlier in his career, Nyachae worked as a State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers in Nairobi from 1984 to 1986 where he was involved in legislative drafting, commercial law, and litigation.

Education
His academic credentials include a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of London, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of Stirling in Scotland.
He is a member of several Professional and Peer Organizations including LSK, East African Law Society, Institute of Certified Public Secretaries (Kenya), and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK).
He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, International Bar Association and the Commonwealth Law Association.
