High Court Judge Justice Grace Nzioka has postponed the sentencing of Joseph Irungu alias Jowie.
Justice Nzioka said that some documents expected that were to be used by the court to make final decision were filed late at 7pm on March 7.
Additionally, the judge noted that there was a change of counsel by the Jowie Irungu.
Jowie’s lawyer had requested for one week to go through and reply to the newly filed document, a request that the court declined.
The sentencing will be made on Wednesday, March 13.
Court Finds Jowie Guilty
In a February 9, ruling, Justice Grace Nzioka found Jowie guilty of the murder of Monica Kimani in a series of events.
In her ruling, Justice Nzioka’s meticulous examination of the evidence led to the conclusion that Jowie was responsible for Kimani’s murder, paving the way for his sentencing.

“Therefore, it is the finding of this court that the prosecution has proved beyond a reasonable doubt all the ingredients of the offence of murder, the death that occurred, the cause of death and the person who committed that offence.
“It was not a case of homicide, it was unlawful. Therefore, I find the first accused person guilty as charged herein of the offence of murder,” she ruled.
On the other hand, Justice Nzioka acquitted Jacque Maribe of the charges pressed against her.
Further, the judge argued that the prosecution side did not produce enough evidence to prove that she was guilty of the murder charges.
Maribe was accused of aiding her ex-fiancé Joseph Irungu in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani who was found with her throat slit and her body dumped in the bathtub with the water still running.
However, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) issued a notice of appeal against the High Court over the verdict that found Maribe not guilty.

New Song After Verdict
Shortly after Justice Grace Nzioka delivered a guilty verdict in the Monica Kimani murder case, Joseph Irungu, also known as Jowie, released a new gospel song.
Titled “Nakuabudu,” the song was posted on Jowie Irungu’s YouTube channel on Friday, February 9, at 2 pm.
Despite the gravity of the court charges against him, Jowie’s latest track serves as an expression of his spiritual journey and possibly a plea for redemption.
“Nakuabudu,” a worship gospel song, revolves around the themes of repentance and finding comfort in God’s embrace.
