George Kimani, the brother of the late Monica Kimani has expressed his relief on the judgement that was made by the High Court finding Joseph Irungu alias Jowie guilty of murder.
Speaking to the media, George Kimani stated that their family was relieved because waiting for the judgement of the case had been overwhelming.

Additionally, he said although their parents were not around, they had been informed of the verdict and were happy that after a long time, justice had been served.
“I felt that it was the right moment because the judgement had been postponed thrice. I am happy that we have been able to settle it. Sadly, my father was not around but he was happy that we were coming to the final stages of this case.

“We also went home and told mom and spent the entire afternoon with her. We were all happy when the judgement day was brought forward because emotions were running high and you need to give answers to family and friends, he stated.
On closure, he noted that although justice was served, it would take time for their family to finally get closure.

“It takes time to get closure. Some people will have to go through counselling because they were affected by the matter,” he added.

Court Gives Verdict on the Murder Case of Monica Kimani
In the February 9, 2024 ruling, Justice Grace Nzioka found Jowie guilty of the murder of Monica Kimani in a series of events.
“Therefore, it is the finding of this court that the prosecution has proved beyond a reasonable doubt all the ingredients of the offence of murder, the death that occurred, the cause of death and the person who committed that offence.
“It was not a case of homicide, it was unlawful. Therefore, I find the first accused person guilty as charged herein of the offence of murder,” she ruled.
On the other hand, Jackie Maribe was acquitted of the murder charges. The judge indicated that the prosecution did not adduce adequate evidence to prove that she was guilty of the murder charges.

Judgement Day Brought Forward
The delivered the verdict after all parties involved in the case agreed on having it moved forward instead of the scheduled date of March 15.
The initial date set for March 15 had also been a result of another postponement of the case after Maribe’s lawyers notified the court that she had fallen ill on January 26, 2024,
“Following consent by parties, the judgment in the Milimani HCCR NO. 51 OF 2018 R. v JOSEPH KURIA IRUNGU alias JOWIE & JACQUELINE WANJIRU MARIBE that was scheduled for March 15, 2024, has been moved to tomorrow Friday, February 9, 2024, at 9:00 am, Court 19,” the statement read in part.
Maribe and Jowie were charged with the murder of the late businesswoman in 2018 when they were still an item.
Monica Kimani was found murdered with her throat slit and her body dumped in the bathtub with the water still running.
