Leonard Mwithiga, a Kenyan man who made headlines after his arrest for allegedly hiring a hitman to go after his wife, has had nothing short of a successful career.
Mwithiga has gotten to the top corporate heights, making his millions in the banking sector and Information technology in Kenya.
To paint a picture of his success, Mwithiga has worked for several big companies in Kenya including Kenya Airways, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Barclays Bank, Equity Bank, and Chase Bank among other companies.
So far, he has over 20 years’ work experience spread across prominent companies.
In 14 of those years, he served in senior managerial positions including his last position at the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), where he left recently under Voluntary Early Retirement.
Mwithiga describes himself as a passionate man with extensive knowledge in banking operations, technology, Innovation and strategic change management on his LinkedIn profile.

The Career Journey of Leonard Mwithiga
According to a LinkedIn profile seen by The Kenya Times, Mwithiga began his corporate journey in 1995 when he secured a job at Kenya Airways as a Systems Support Specialist.
After two years, he moved to Shell, the petroleum company, where he worked as the IT
In 2003, the now suspect, moved to the Central Depository and Settlement Corporation where he worked as the Head of Information Technology until 2006.
Later, Mwithiga moved to Barclays Africa Group where he served as the Head of Change and Performance, in the office of COO.
After a seven-year stint at Barclays, he moved to Equity Bank Limited where he took over the General Manager, Group Shared Services (Group COO Office) position for a period of six months.
The banking manager would later move to the Kenya Commercial Bank and took over the Group Head of IT Service Delivery and Business Relationship position.

He worked in the position for one year before the Company promoted him to the Group Director, Information Technology, in the Office of Group Chief Operating Officer in 2015.
While at the position, he won several awards including the company’s coveted Innovation in Banking award.
In addition, KCB promoted Mwithiga again to the position of Group Shared Services Director where he served fulltime until 2021 when he was promoted to his latest position.
His education Journey
Mwithiga began his university education in 1990. He pursued a bachelor’s degree in physics (Major) and Mathematics at Egerton university.
While at the university, he participated in different projects including one where he Built an electronic circuit board using Zenor diodes.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he was also the Founding Secretary of the University Physics Club.
Later, he joined the university of Nairobi for a master’s in business administration, Management Information Systems in 1999.
In 2004, Mwithiga joined the Strathmore Business School for a course in System Security Management and became a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
Additionally, he joined GIBS Business School and for an Executive Management Program in 2010.
The business and IT enthusiast also went to the University of Nairobi to pursue a doctorate in Philosophy, Business Administration, including Strategic Information Systems and Banking Industry Specialization.
