President William Ruto held a phone conversation on Friday, November 8, 2024, with the United States (US) President-elect Donald Trump.
In a statement, Ruto said he congratulated Trump on his election as the 47th President.
The two also discussed areas of interest for both US and Kenya as Trump prepares to take over from President Joe Biden.
“I have had a telephone conversation with US President-Elect Donald Trump, I congratulated him following his election as the 47th President of the United States of America,” Ruto said.
“We discussed areas of mutual interest that are of benefit to the citizens of our two countries, including trade and investment, security and good governance.”
During the call, President Ruto also briefed Trump on the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti and possible areas of cooperation with the US government on this important conflict resolution initiative.
Ruto Phone Calls with US Secretary of State
This comes a day after President Ruto held a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on November 7.
The two discussed how Kenya and the US will continuously work together to enhance collaboration and ensure improved governance.
The main areas include the fight against corruption and the provision of capacity building to make security institutions more efficient, effective and accountable in the discharge of their mandate.
Ruto and Blinken also had a conversation on the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.
“We discussed the transition of the mission into a UN peacekeeping operation to enhance the capability of the mission to help stabilize Haiti,” he said.

Congratulatory Message to Trump
The Kenyan President is also among the head of states who sent their congratulatory message after Trump won against Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a statement on November 6, Ruto said Trump’s win is a testament to the firm resolve of the American people to repose confidence in his visionary, bold and innovative leadership.
He explained that Kenya is ready to further enhance cooperation with the US on matters of mutual interest including trade, investment, technology and innovation, peace and security, and sustainable development.

Additionally, Ruto said Kenya values its longstanding partnership with the US spanning over 60 years grounded in their shared values of democracy, development and mutual respect.
He mentioned that Kenya looks forward to deepening collaboration with the US under Trump’s leadership as they work together to address global challenges, promote peace and security and foster inclusive economic growth for the benefit of the people.
“Congratulations once again Mr. President-Elect, and may your tenure bring continued progress and unity to the United States of America and strengthen the bonds between our two great nations. Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration,” Ruto said.
