The election of the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) student leader has been nullified. Chair of the 2025/2026 Student Association of the Technical University of Kenya (SATUK) Electoral Board, Dr. Sylvester Hayker, said the election of the Chairperson and Male Faculty Representative has been cancelled.
The Board notified TUK students that some aspirants to the above-mentioned positions lodged petitions pertaining to eligibility to hold the SATUK office by the current holders of the respective offices.

A Panel of Arbitrators appointed by the Vice-Chancellor addressed concerns in accordance with Article 24 of the SATUK Constitution, 2018 (Revised 2024).
The Panel scrutinised witness statements, completed aspirants’ application forms, aspirants’ fee statements, students’ Identity Cards, uncontroverted evidence from the clearance portal, TUSOFT system, EDPS report, result slips and nominal roll evidence.

The results established that the two current office holders for the position of Chairperson of SATUK and Male Representatives of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology were found culpable of misrepresentation of eligibility information.
“Consequently, it was recommended as follows: That the election of the Chairperson together with their running mate and Male Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology Representative, be nullified,” the Board said.

Male Faculty Representative Runners-Up Declared Winner
The Board directed that a repeat election for the position of Chairperson, SATUK 2025/2026, with the remaining aspirants to be held after fresh vetting, be organised.
Additionally, the Board said the Runner-up and the only opponent of the petitioned Office bearer be declared as the Male Faculty Representative for the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology.

TUK Fresh Election Schedule
The SATUK Electoral Board said the repeat election for the Chairperson position will be conducted on May 12 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Lecture Theatre.
Application and processing of aspirants will be done on May 7, followed by submissions and publication of cleared aspirants the next day.

The Board will meet with aspirants and their agents in Room N023F on May 12 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Swearing-in of the newly elected chairperson will be done on May 12 between 11:00 am and noon.
“It should be noted that the delegates who took part in the SATUK Council elections on April 29, 2025, will be the same voters in the repeat elections,” SOTUK said.
