Elon Musk has announced a shift in focus following a pair of global outages that hit his social media platform, X, on 24th May.
In a post shared on 24th May, Musk said he is refocusing his efforts on X, xAI, Tesla, and an upcoming SpaceX Starship launch, citing the need for “major operational improvements” after back-to-back platform failures.
“Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms,” Musk wrote.
“I must be super focused on ????/xAI and Tesla (plus Starship launch next week), as we have critical technologies rolling out. As evidenced by the ???? uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made. The failover redundancy should have worked, but did not,” he added.
X Outage Globally
The outages, which affected users globally for several hours on Saturday, sparked widespread frustration.

X Daily News, an independent news account on the platform, suggested a fire at a data center in Oregon could be partly to blame. Musk was replying directly to that speculation in his post.
The billionaire CEO’s comments also come amid a noticeable shift in his public priorities.
Musk, who last year spent nearly $300 million to support former President Donald Trump’s campaign and other Republican candidates, said he plans to scale back his political donations.
His announcement follows mounting investor unease over Musk’s increasingly politicized public persona and concern that it may be distracting from his leadership of Tesla, SpaceX, and X.

Additionally, anticipation is building for the next Starship launch, currently scheduled for next week, which could mark a critical milestone for Musk’s ambitions to enable interplanetary travel.

SpaceX had announced that it is targeting Tuesday, May 27 for Starship’s ninth flight test.
Starship launches from SpaceX’s Starbase, the company’s headquarters in Boca Chica. The company town built about 23 miles from Brownsville in Cameron County.
Starship is intended to carry both cargo and humans to Earth’s orbit and deeper into the cosmos in the coming year.
As for X, the outages have revived questions about the platform’s infrastructure since Musk’s $44 billion acquisition in 2022, which was followed by sweeping layoffs, including among engineering staff.
