Celebrated Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi was moved by a Homa Bay grandmother who caught the attention of the country after she tried to settle the school fees debt with Ksh245,000 with her 6 chickens.
The photos had earlier gone viral on social media, showing the grandmother and her two grandchildren at Adiedo mixed secondary school with their 6 chickens.
Consolata Oduya, from Karachuonyo, had made the move to at least reduce her grandchildren’s Ksh245,000 fee arrears.
Why the grandmother took the 6 chickens to school
It emerged that the woman had been working tirelessly for years to support her grandchildren.

Unfortunately, she was overwhelmed with arrears that had accumulated over the past four years.
The viral photos depicted the grandmother, her grandchildren, and the school principal inspecting the chickens.
Moreover, the school principal, James Kabarak, accepted the chickens and issued a receipt for Ksh 6,000.
This brought out the lengths to which the family had gone just to meet the school requirements.
Act of kindness from Eric Omondi
After the viral and public photos, Eric Omondi was moved and immediately launched a search for the Homa Bay grandmother, Consolata Oduya.
Known for his philanthropic efforts, the comedian shared the story on his social media platforms, urging his followers to help locate the family.
“Please help me find this mother. If you know her, please DM me or comment on her number. “Thank you,” Eric Omondi said on his Instagram post.
Public reactions on the Eric Omondi’s move
Many of the netizens were excited by this move and positively reacted to his posts, thanking him for his generosity.

“I wish if we could have 10 to 20 people with the heart Eric Omondi has of helping, we could have made a great impact in our country. God bless you, brother,” said Remmy Ouma.
After the search, Eric Omondi, together with his team, was able to trace the grandmother in Homabay, as he narrates.
“Hey guys, TEAM SISI KWA SISI and I travelled to Homa Bay to meet our grandmother,” he said.
The grandmother explained her case and how she really struggled to keep her grandchildren in school to the extent of accruing arrears for four years.
“She has been supporting her Grandchildren for years, and she accrued arrears for 4 Years,” he explained.
In addition, he went ahead and requested the public to unite and give hope to the family.
“Let’s change her life,” Omondi requested.
Governor Wanga’s reactions
This also caught the attention of Governor Wanga who stepped in to give hope to the learners whose future was in limbo.
“To secure their future, we’ve enrolled both students in our scholarship program and will support them through college. Every child deserves education without barriers,” Wanga stated.
