Former KTN News Health and Science Editor Dr Mercy Korir is the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Editor-in-Chief of Willow Health Media.
Korir shared the news on Linked In, expressing her excitement and gratitude for the new role as congratulatory messages poured in.
Willow Health Media is a donor-funded project that commenced in May 2024, under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
“I’m happy to share that I started a new position as Chief Executive Officer & Editor-in-Chief at Willow Health Media,” she stated.

Dr Mercy Korir Roles and Responsibilities at the Foundation
Willow Health Media is funded to highlight global health awareness and issues that affect poor communities in Kenya.
According to the foundation’s website, their aim is to ensure accountability-driven reporting.
“To drive knowledge and awareness of health issues that affect the most poor in Kenya through in-depth, accountability-driven reporting to improve health outcomes and boost health literacy.”
Dr Mercy Korir is now tasked with being the vision bearer of the project and “driving strategy towards being the leading health journalism media house.”
She noted that she is dedicated to producing and distributing editorially independent health reporting across different platforms including broadcast and social media.

Career in Media and Education
Dr Mercy Korir is a Medical Journalist and a medical doctor with a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery and a Master of Arts in Communication Studies, both from the University of Nairobi.
In 2023, she graduated with a master’s in marketing and finance from the United States International University (USIU).
Before becoming a full-time journalist at KTN, Korir practiced as a medical doctor. At KTN, she ran a weekly TV health news feature show and published articles in the Standard Media’s print publications.
She served at the station between April 2017 and November 2022, when she left the Mombasa Road-based media house to join AAR Hospital as a Business Development Manager.
Further, she served at AAR Hospital between November 2022 and May 2024.
Moreover, she took a 3-month break after her stint at AAR hospital to focus on full-time parenting.
