Barely weeks after announcing his departure from the Nation Media Group where he was a Managing Editor, Oliver Mathenge has secured a new role as a Consultant with Oxygène Marketing Communications Limited.
In a statement on Thursday, January 23, Mathenge announced that he will serve as an Editorial and Production Consultant for the company.
“I am excited to share that I have begun a new role as an Editorial and Production Consultant at Oxygène Marketing Communications Ltd. I look forward to learning new things and utilizing my expertise to deliver the best for all Oxygène’s clients,” he stated.
Following the announcement, several colleagues in the media congratulated him on his new position.
Oliver Mathenge joins Oxygène
Winnie Kihuga, Team Leader at Nation FM, wished Mathenge success in his new role, saying, “Wishing you the best.”
Salma Shaban, a Media and Communications Manager at the Technology Service Providers Association, added, “Congrats, Oliver! All the best in your new role.”

Media and Communications Consultant Patience Nyange also expressed her congratulations saying “Congrats, Oliver.”
Mathenge’s announcement comes shortly after he declared his departure from Nation Media Group on December 26.
He served the company in two stints totaling nine years. Before leaving the Kimathi Street-based media house, Mathenge was the Managing Editor for Audience and Engagement, where he was instrumental in driving digital growth.
Mathenge’s Career
During his tenure, he significantly contributed to enhancing digital growth and audience engagement, notably through the development of the NTV Kenya website and the implementation of paywalls for various NMG publications.
At NTV, he chaired a task force that created the NMG Artificial Intelligence Framework and represented the group on the Media Council of Kenya’s working group on AI guidelines.
Mathenge first joined NMG in 2007 as a news journalist, a role he held for five years before exiting. He rejoined the company in December 2021, rising through the ranks to become a Managing Editor, a position he held since April 2023.
In addition to his work at NMG, Mathenge worked at Radio Africa Group from 2012.

There, he started as a Parliamentary Reports Editor and was later promoted to the role of Digital Editor in May 2017, a position he held until November 2021 when he returned to NMG.
Oliver Mathenge holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (Electronic and Print Media option) from Daystar University and a Diploma in Management Information Systems from Strathmore University.
