Ex PS Lesiyampe Raises Alarm Over Death Threats

Former Agriculture Principal Secretary (PS) Richard Lesiyampe has raised concerns over threats to his life.

Consequently, he has sought intervention from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Speaking to the authorities, Lesiyampe revealed that he had received credible reports of plots against him and that he feared for his safety.

Further, the former PS cited a recent incident involving a gun attack on a vehicle he had been using the previous week.

The attack has intensified his fears, leading him to believe that his life is in imminent danger.

Although details of the exact circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, Lesiyampe indicated that the attack targeting him was deliberate. 

The DCI is yet to release an official statement regarding the case.

Earlier Alarm Raised by the Ex PS

In January 2024, Lesiyampe raised a of threats to his life after armed assailants, believed to be bandits, opened fire on his Samburu home. The assailants unleashed 20 bullets causing widespread fear and panic.

The attack took place at Lesiyampe’s residence, which also serves as a temporary shelter for neighbouring livestock.

At the time, eyewitnesses reported that the armed men, likely targeting the livestock, encircled the compound and began firing indiscriminately as they neared the gate.

However, a swift response by local police reservists managed to ward off the assailants, forcing them to retreat after a brief exchange of fire.

In February 2024, Dr Richard Lesiyampe was appointed the new Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital chief executive officer, replacing Dr George Rae. 

Before his appointment, Lesiyampe served as the CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital where he steered the facility towards excellence.
