Veteran musician Nonini, also known as Mgenge Mtrue has served MCSK CEO Dr Ezekiel Mutua with a letter demanding an apology over his statement noting that the musician had embezzled funds.
Coming on the back of a heated argument between the two, Dr Mutua dismissed Nonini claiming that banished with funds meant to benefit musicians.

However, the musician took issue with the claims by the CEO and instructed his lawyers to take action against him.
In the letter seen by The Kenya Times, Nonini asked Mutua to pull down his statement immediately and apologize within 24 hours.

“Should you choose to ignore these demands, we have strict instructions to institute legal proceedings against you in a court of law against our client,” the statement read in part.

The argument between and Mutua and the musician was sparked by a letter showing how the MCSK, allegedly, used money collected as royalties.
But Mutua refuted the content of the statement and asked anyone doubting MCSK’s expenditure to present the document to the Director of Criminal investigation (DCI) office and record and a statement.
According to Mutua, the document shared by Nonini was taken from MUPAKE accounts of 2017-2019 and altered to fit a false narrative.
“If the document is genuine take it to the DCI office and record a statement,” the MCSK CEO noted in a statement.

Music royalties are paid to artists after every end of year as benefits collected for their music played in media stations inclusive of Tv and radio and any other organization.
The document shared by Nonini went viral with some Kenyans debating its content showing that MCSK officials received hefty wages, more than the over 1,000 registered musicians.
As per the statement, MCSK collected over Ksh109 million and ended up spending Ksh57 million for on slaries of its members and staff.
In addition, the society, according to the statement, spent millions on other expenses while reserving Ksh10 million for the artists.
Reacting to the argument between Dr Mutua and Nonini, Kenyans weighed in with mixed reactions over the issue that has been hot over the last couple of days.

In a statement on X, a user named Haaland Sholla says, “So you guys use half of artists money on your salaries?”
Some challenged Dr Mutua to present original document if he maintained the shared document was fake.
Another user named Wamiti Son Harry said, “Fugitive you say, you better counter the fugitive fake document with the original ones.”
After his stint in the MCSK, Nonini, the Furahi Day Hitmaker, took to his social media accounts to announce his decision to terminate his membership with MCSK.
