A section of Nairobi West residents is calling on the government to compensate them after a Kenya Air Force fighter jet flew unusually low during Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12, causing damage to their homes.

Some of the the residents who spoke to the media on Friday reported shattered windows, cracked walls, and other structural damage in the area.

“There are no reported injuries or health issues, but residents have incurred costs repairing damaged windows and other property,” said Basabra, a Nairobi West resident.

“Imagine out of the blue you hear an unusual sound, and suddenly windows begin to shatter.”

They are now calling for government intervention, including investigations into the incident, safety assurances for future national events, and compensation for the damage caused.

A deafening roar from a Kenya Air Force fighter jet sparked panic, startling the crowd, including President William Ruto. Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Charles Kahariri appeared calm.
