Dadaab Member of Parliament (MP) Farah Maalim has addressed a video circulating on social media, which allegedly shows him saying he would have killed 5000 Kenyan youths (Gen Z) participating in anti-government protests.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 9, Maalim dismissed the video as edited and manipulated to convey a false message.
He accused the Somalis of editing the video alleging that he frequently discusses their country’s politics.
“The video making the rounds has been edited. It’s all cutting and pasting, taking a word from here and putting it together. It is Somalis who basically would do that, for other reasons, because I also weighed in on the politics of Somalia,” Farah Maalim said.
“I have always spoken my mind. I might be politically incorrect right now and a lot of people are excited about this thing, but I have seen that kind of excitement before. Let us continue using democracy and keep engaging in dialogue, but when you say occupy this, occupy that, be my guest, let’s see.”
About the Viral Video of Farah Maalim
In the viral Video, Maalim allegedly said, “Kids of the wealthy business owner, wealthy parents and those raised from ill-gotten wealth whom 80 percent are from a single tribe were dropped off downtown and were told to occupy the parliament building and Statehouse.”
“God forbid, if I the President which God hasn’t given me, I would have slaughtered them, 5000 of them daily, serious.”

However, Farah stated that the video does not accurately represent his comments about the Kenyan youth, and he did not mention Gen Z in his speech.
He further described the protest and the attempt by Gen Z to occupy State House and Parliament as an attempted coup.
“When you are occupying State House and Parliament, two constitutional institutions that are bedrock of stability of the country and the democracy that we practice, that is a coup,” he said.
“I’m trying to sound serious alarm that these movements we have seen in many places and the results are always devastating.”
MP’ s Opinion on Gen Z Protests
He said that most of the people demonstrating in Somalia are young, with many losing their lives while others were displaced.
For this reason, Farah Maalim advised the youth to demonstrate but to refrain from attempting to occupy seats of government.
“I said anytime these things were attempted there were serious slaughter and it happened in Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and everywhere an attempt was made to try and forcefully takeover the seats of government. Those countries do not even have the working democracy that we have,” Farah said.

“The business of trying to use anarchy, chaos and masses out there to try and create a revolution never succeeds and does not go down well.”
He explained that such protests lead to failed states and that politicians will be the first to be affected, as their seats will be taken over by young people.
Furthermore, Farah Maalim urged the public to continue engaging in dialogues, discussing the future, and expressing their views, while allowing the instruments of democracy to function independently.
