Activist Boniface Mwangi has revealed the sponsors of the memorial concert dubbed #ShujaazMemorialConcert held at Uhuru Park Gardens on Saba Saba day.
Speaking to the press on July 7, Mwangi said the event was organized with support from Kenyans, himself, and some of his friends.

“Kenyans are paying for it. There is no single person who can say they have put all the money here. I have put some of my money here, and so have friends,” he said.
Mwangi also mentioned that he reached out to Telco giant Safaricom for support, but they refused to assist. “We reached out to Safaricom online, but they said no.”

The concert is about remembering anti-government protestors who were brutally killed by police officers while exercising their democratic right to picket.
Mwangi added that during the concert, Kenyans will also celebrate the sacrifices the protests’ victims made for the country.

About the Memorial Concert Organized by Boniface Mwangi
Family members of those who died are also expected to speak at the event and share their tributes.
The activist said it took so many people to die for the Kenya Kwanza government to listen to the cries of Kenyans.
Boniface Mwangi said over 30 artists will be performing at the concert among them Juliani and Eric Wainaina who have a track record of artistic activism and releasing socially conscious.
Other entertainment artist to grace the event are Muthoni Ndonga, Khaligraph Jones, Octopizzo, Trio Mio, among others.
More than 500 people have arrived at Uhuru Park, with the event’s theme being that the struggles will continue.
“We are strong, and this is a fight to liberate this country from the clutches of leaders who take advantage of young people,” Mwangi concluded.
The event started by showing participants of the memorial concert mounting several white crosses which had names of victims killed during protests written in black paint.
Mwangi on Saturday July 6 said the protesters should be buried in caskets draped in the Kenyan flag because they died fighting for justice.

While attending a burial of one of the protesters, Andrew Mwawasi, at Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi Mwangi called on Kenyans to bury the fallen comrades with the Kenyan flag.
“Andrew Kelvin Mwawasi has been laid to rest. For those who can, please make an effort to attend the funerals of those the state murdered. Bury them with the Kenyan flag; they died for us,” Mwangi said.
Boniface Mwangi was a key organizer of the Occupy Parliament protests on Tuesdays of June 18 and 25.
Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) said 41 people have died, over 360 injured, 1,009 arrested and 32 abducted across the 20 counties over the last three weeks.
