The National Land Commission (NLC) has moved ahead with the compulsory acquisition of land needed the expand the Rironi–Mau Summit (A8) Road, with dozens of parcels identified for acquisition.
In a Gazette Notice No. 13923, issued under the Land Act, it states that the land is being acquired on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
“Notice is given that the National Land Commission intends to acquire parcels of land shown in the Schedule hereunder on behalf of Kenya National Highways Authority in accordance with section 110 of the Land Act, for Expansion of Rironi–Mau Summit (A8) Road Project in Kiambu, Nyandarua and Nakuru Counties,” read part of the notice.
The project cuts across Kiambu, Nyandarua and Nakuru counties and forms part of the wider Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit highway development.
The notice details affected parcels, the portions required for the road project, and the documentation landowners must provide when seeking compensation.

The Mau-Rironi Dueling Project
The land acquisition is part of a much larger road programme being implemented by KeNHA through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
KeNHA has described the development as an upgrade, dualling and expansion of the Rironi–Nakuru–Mau Summit A8 section and the Rironi–Mai Mahiu–Naivasha A8 South section, covering 233 kilometers in total. The route traverses Kiambu, Nyandarua and Nakuru counties.
The A8 section runs from Rironi through Naivasha and Gilgil towards Mau Summit, while the wider project also includes the A8 South connection through Mai Mahiu to Naivasha.
The PPP programme has since been divided between two private-sector proponents. Shandong Hi-Speed Road and Bridge International is undertaking the 94-kilometer Gilgil–Nakuru–Mau Summit section. At the same time, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), in partnership with the National Social Security Fund, is responsible for the other sections.
KeNHA has said construction is expected to be completed by June 2027, with progress reported on both contractors’ sections in July.
