Former Homa Bay County Clerk Bob Kephas Otieno and his wife Evelyne Ogutu have been ordered by the High Court to return Ksh. 26,272,460.
The two reportedly stole money from public coffers.
Moreover, the ruling was made by justice Esther Maina on Thursday, March 2 after probe by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) established that the former county clerk abused his office and wired the said amount directly to the bank account of Nyangume Enterprises.
It is reported that Nyangume Enterprises, which belongs to his wife Evelyne, received the money but did not render any services to the county.
Likewise, EACC investigations established that some of the loot was consequently wired to Mr. Otieno’s bank accounts.

Furthermore, EACC filed a recovery suit in 2018 after the pair reportedly refused to adhere to an order to return the stolen cash.
Nonetheless, Justice Maina ordered Bob Kephas Otieno and his wife to remit the said payments to EACC, plus a 12 percent interest for each year that the cash remained missing.
The couple were further ordered to cover the costs of the law suit.
Nevertheless, the Homa Bay case is one of the various recovery suits worth over Ksh.40 billion that are currently active in various courts across the country where EACC seeks to recover corruptly acquired assets by public officials.
