A governor is generating income for his county from renting machines to other county governments. According to a document shared by Lemiso Media House, Uasin Gishu County Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim is earning over Ksh25,000 per hour from leasing its equipment to other counties.
In the water receipt, Uasin Gishu leased a watermaster machine to Kericho County for 60 hours at a cost of Ksh25,000.

Kericho County paid Ksh1,5 million after renting the machine for the said period.
The county also hired a lowbed carrier trailer at Ksh60,000.

The total paid to Uasin Gishu was, therefore, Ksh1.56 million.
Kericho County made the payment on December 19, 2024, and the receipt was issued to Outline Construction Limited.

What is a Watermaster

Uasin Gishu Purchases Watermaster
Uasin Gishu launched the Watermaster Class IV amphibious dredging machine in December 2019.
Senator Jackson Mandago, who was the governor at that time, said the machine can float across large water bodies to extract, collect, mill and dispose of water weeds.
Mandago said the machine will be used to clean large dams across the county.

He mentioned the first task was to clean and reconstruct operations of the Kerita dam.
“This water master will be used to clean large dams across Uasin Gishu county with the 18 million litres Kerita dam set to be ready for use by the end of January 2020,” said the County boss.
He added that the county was the second government agency to own such a machine after the National Water & Pipeline Corporation.
