The government has answered former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after he claimed that President William Ruto’s administration had hatched a plan to eliminate him using biological weapons.
In a media interview on Monday, May 19, 2025, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura dismissed these allegations as laughable, suggesting that the former Deputy President is merely seeking political mileage.
“The government will come to you if you are unable to account for your actions. When you make outrageous statements about biological weapons, it is surely laughable,” part of Mwaura’s statement read.
Mwaura also questioned why the government would be interested in eliminating the former Deputy President. He claimed that Gachagua’s allegations are intended to create momentum for his supporters following the launch of his new political party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
“Some people have launched a political party, and they must create a momentum around it, stirring drama. You know people can be easily deceived by that,” Mwaura stated.
Mwaura Dismisses Claims of Gachagua Regarding Assassination Plot
This response came just hours after Gachagua alleged that President Ruto’s administration was plotting to assassinate him using biological weapons.
In a press briefing on Monday, May 19, 2025, Gachagua claimed that an elite security team had been mobilized to target him with inhaled chemicals designed to paralyze his brain and potentially cause death within three months.

He stated he received intelligence reports about this plot and accused Ruto of ordering that he be “dealt with once and for all.”
“At approximately 11:00 AM on Sunday, May 18, 2025, this information was communicated to the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service, and the Director of Criminal Investigations by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government.
The killer squad is composed of 101 lethal officers drawn from the DCI, Anti-Terrorism Police Unit, GSU, and Regular Police Administration Police, deployed to NIS,” claimed the former Deputy President.
Former DP Claims Plot to Kill Him
Additionally, Gachagua addressed claims that his remarks regarding the IEBC incited public unrest, warning that there could be post-election violence if the IEBC fails to honor the people’s will. This statement led police to search for him at his homes for his arrest.
He defended himself by saying his remarks had been taken out of context.

“Regarding my statement on post-election violence, it was a precautionary statement and not incitement; it is based on historical facts and past electoral experiences from the controversial election results of 1992, 1997, and 2007.
We must have free and fair elections in 2027. It is my civic duty as a leader to remind the IEBC and all agencies involved in election management that they must deliver free, fair, verifiable, and credible elections,” the former Deputy President added.
