How DCI Trapped and Abducted Blogger Over Nane Nane Protests

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, August 6, abducted blogger and businessman Kevin Too in Kahawa West area in Nairobi.

Speaking after his release, Kevin narrated the harrowing ordeal revealing that a DCI officer lured him into the trap.

In his narration, Too said he was going about his business helping clients find houses when he received a phone call. A man who was urgently in need of a house to rent called him to seek his services.

Happily, he engaged the man and found a suitable vacant house for him in Kahawa West.

DCI Officers Show up in a Subaru

The man agreed to meet Kevin to go and check out the house which he wanted to rent before paying any money. However, on their way to the location, a Subaru vehicle full of officers showed up in front of them.

According to Kevin, they immediately arrested him without introducing themselves or telling him what his wrongdoing was.

Immediately, they pushed him inside the boot of the vehicle forcefully, as residents stood by and watched, some, recording the incident.

“I met him and explained to him where the vacant house was. I was taking him to the house when all of a sudden, officers in a Subaru showed up and arrested me immediately. Hey did not even bother to tell me who they are. They started pushing me inside the boot,” he said.

“I tried pulling him out of the vehicle and they pointed a pistol at me. I had to let go. As they were driving away, they dropped his phone and one of his shoes,” Mary Wambui, one of the residents stated.

The blogger and businessman was then taken to Kasarani Police Station where he was interrogated for over four hours concerning his involvement in the planned ‘Nane Nane’ protests.

“They said that I was fueling the protests yet people here in Kahawa West know that I like peace,” he added.

Later, the police officers let him go back home.

Who is Kevin Too

He is a Roysambu-based blogger and admin of the Facebook page “East or West Home Ni K-West.’

He is reported to be a critic of injustices done by the government and the area Member of Parliament (MP).

Earlier in July, President William Ruto condemned the abductions and ordered the release of all protesters who were arrested during the gen Z led protests.

He said that those who had not been found guilty of any crimes should also have all charges against them withdrawn.

The President also instructed the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to drop all charges against those detained during the protests.

“I urge the criminal justice agencies to take effective measures and ensure that people who may have been innocently caught in the wrong side of things be released and charges against them withdrawn. It is important that these suspects are brought to book and prosecuted,” said Ruto.
