A motorist accused of attempted rape tried to take his life after getting information that the police were after him in Murang’a County.
The suspect identified as Peter Gitau Kimani, reportedly tried to rape a 22-year-old woman whom he had offered lift at Kaburingi trading center in Kandara, Murang’a county.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on 8th June 2024, the woman boarded the vehicle unaware of the motorist’s intentions when the driver suddenly attempted to rape her. The woman, however, put up a spirited fight with screams and managed to unlock and hop out of the moving car.
“Innocently, the young woman boarded the vehicle, unaware of the man’s intentions. Putting up a spirited fight with screams and shrieks as her backup, the victim managed to unlock the vehicle and hopped out, scathed but pure,” the statement read.
She reported the matter to officers stationed at Kandara Police Station on Wednesday, who started the hunt for Kimani immediately.
Motorist ‘s Suicide Attempt
After the suspect got hint that police were on his trail, fear, guilt and disbelief engulfed him prompting him to attempt suicide by taking poison.

Afterwards, the police found him in his house and rushed him to Thika Level 5 Hospital, where he is admitted but in stable condition.
Additionally, Kimani is set to be arraigned in court after his dismissal.
“Meanwhile, Kimani got wind that he had been unmasked, and that hawkshaws were hot on his trail. Overcome by the fear of prison life coupled with the shame and guilt of his actions, he downed a bottle of poison,” read a statement by the DCI.
This incident comes days later after four officers were arrested in relation to Ksh2.2 million theft case. The police officers were among six suspects who stole the money from an international school accountant’s car on Monday June 3,2024.
The six are believed to have trailed the accountant from a bank in Utawala, before breaking into his car and disappearing with money.

The DCI in a statement made on Thursday, June 6, 2024, said that the six suspects were arrested following combined efforts of officers drawn from DCI Nairobi region and Kayole sub-county.
