How to Register M-PESA Pay Bill Number

The M-PESA Pay bill service is a cash collection service that allows an organization, various types of businesses, chamas or even churches to collect money from customers or other people through mobile payments.

Through Pay bill numbers, one is able to serve clients much better as customers are able to pay for services with ease and timeliness.

Safaricom’s payment solutions have enabled simple single transactions as well as bulk payments whenever necessary through the Lipa Na M-PESA service.

Pay bill numbers also revolutionized transactions for businesses, chamas or organizations are conducted by ensuring that payments are collected easily with no time limitations through M-PESA.

A crucial component of this service is the M-PESA Till Number, also known as the Buy Goods Number, which enables businesses to collect payments instantly from their customers.

Here is a guide to the step-by-step process of registering M-PESA Till numbers

First, you must identify your unique business category such as a retail store, a dynamic fuel station, or a thriving chama.

Understanding your identity is key to choosing the right Pay bill option tailored to your needs.

Are you running a retail store, a cozy restaurant, grocery store or a fuel station? Each category has its own specific requirements and benefits, designed to cater to the diverse needs of businesses in various industries.

After identifying your category, the next step is gathering the necessary documents to kickstart your Pay bill registration journey.

Ensure you have everything in place to streamline the process and set the stage for seamless transactions.

Requirements For M-PESA Pay Bills

For Individual Buy Goods Product

The M-PESA Business till is an enhancement of the existing Lipa Na M-PESA Buy Goods till that enables business owners to collect payments on the till and use the money collected to make other transactions directly from their till.

This till is ideal for businesses in retail, such as supermarkets, restaurants, hardware, pharmacies, boutiques, salons, deliveries, online businesses etc. that collect money from customers regularly as part of their business.

Duly filled and signed application form & Terms and Conditions, copy of identification documents (National ID, Passport/Alien ID/Military ID) and a Cancelled cheque or bank letter stating owner’s bank details.

How To Register M-Pesa Pay Bill Numbers For Businesses

For online business

Duly filled and signed application form & Terms and Conditions, copy of identification documents of persons opening the account (National ID, Passport/Alien ID/Military ID), cancelled cheque or letter from bank stating owner’s bank details, an Individual KRA PIN Certificate and Indicate link and/or approved documentation to conduct online businesses.

For Chamas

Duly filled and signed application form & Terms and Conditions, copy of Certificate of Registration, Filled, stamped, or sealed resolution letter signed by at least 2 officials, Identification documents for officials and authorized operators (National ID, Passport/Alien ID/Military ID), cancelled cheque or bank letter stating chama’s bank details, Chama KRA pin certificate.

Denominational and non-denominational churches

Duly filled and signed application form & Terms and Conditions, Copy of Certificate of Registration, Filled, stamped or sealed resolution letter signed by at least 2 church officials, copy of identification documents for the church officials and authorized persons i.e. National ID, Passport/Alien ID/Military ID, cancelled cheque or letter from bank stating church’s bank details, Church KRA pin certificate.

For Individuals with Rental Business

Duly filled and signed application form & Terms and Conditions, Copy of Certificate of Registration, signed letter from the NGO Board confirming registration and Identification documents for directors and appointed operators.

Also required are Director’s KRA PIN certificates, copy of identification documents such as National/Military ID for at least 2 directors and appointed operators, cancelled cheque or bank letter stating organization’s bank details and Organization’s KRA pin certificate.

Application Form

Download the Pay bill application form from Safaricom’s website or visit a Safaricom Retail Shop to obtain one. Fill out the form accurately, providing all the required details about your business or chama and the nature of your transactions.

Step 4: Launch Your Application

With your application form filled and ready, it’s time to set the wheels in motion. Submit your application in person at a Safaricom Retail Shop or via email to [email protected], and let’s kickstart this journey together.

As your application makes its way through the verification process note that the duration may vary.

Application will be processed within 10 minutes for the online individual till category and 24 hours for other categories of tills, and you will receive the till details via SMS from Lipa na M-PESA on the line that made the application when it is ready.

Upon approval, Safaricom will assign you a unique Pay bill number You will receive this number via SMS or email, along with guidelines on how to activate and manage your Till.

With the till details sent to you, please proceed to activate.

Step 7: Configuration and testing

Before officially launching the Till Number for customer use, configure your system according to your business needs and conduct thorough testing to ensure seamless transactions.

With your Pay bill activated and tested, you’re now ready to unlock the full potential of digital transactions.
