Residents have discovered different human body parts in a sack dumped in the Mathare River, near the Riverside Bridge in Kariobangi.
The shocking discovery of body parts in the river was announced by the Kariobangi Social Justice Centre on Saturday, January 25, in a post accompanied by images of the gruesome find.
“We are currently at Kariobangi/ Riverside Bridge along Mathare River where a sack with different human body parts have been discovered. Police are yet to arrive on the site,” it said. The residents are the one that helped in retrieving the body.
Residents of the area said the body parts were discovered by a street child on Saturday morning while combing through river debris for valuables.
In images seen by The Kenya Times, one hand and two small parts of the thigh were visible among the body parts found in the sack.
However, the sack did not contain two upper arms, one hand, two legs and the head.
“There were no upper parts of the body including the head except one hand. We saw a black spot that looked like a birthmark on the thigh. And she wore black inner on her nails and the parts were badly dismembered,” said Monica Kalondu, the area community health volunteer.
Human Body Parts Found in Sack Dumped in Mathare River
Onlookers were spotted at the scene near the river, where the body is believed to have been dumped.
At the time of publishing, the police had yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
It also remains unclear when the body was dumped and whether it was left in the area or carried to the location by the water. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the discovery.

Agitated residents have expressed frustration, stating that they have been waiting for officers from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) homicide department, who have taken too long to respond to the scene.
The Starehe DCI Officer, Amani, who oversaw the retrieval of the body parts and suggested that the parts belonged to a female who had previously gone missing.
He revealed that it was not a new body since Police officers had been searching for these body parts for the past five days.
“These are body parts that the police have been looking for over the past five days. It is not a fresh body, we already had a female body with missing parts in our possession, and these are the parts we have been looking for,” the DCIO claimed.
“Now we have a full body of the deceased.” He said adding that the parts will be taken to the morgue for further examinations.

This comes after a 29-year-old male suspect was arrested by police on Tuesday January 21 for carrying a bag containing human body parts on his back.
