Suspended Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has broken his silence after members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Federation passed a formal resolution calling for top federation officials to step aside over the alleged Ksh 42 million CHAN funds scandal.
In a briefing to the press on Saturday, April 25, Hussein Mohammed dismissed reports linking the federation to alleged financial impropriety in the organization of the CHAN tournament.
He maintained that the procurement of insurance for CHAN 2025 was conducted within the CAF framework and that the insurance was procured by the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF).
Hussein Mohamed says the procurement of Insurance for CHAN 2025 was conducted by CAF
He explained that the insurance cover met the requirements of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and was intended to protect players, officials, staff, and stakeholders, in line with tournament standards and the signed host agreement.
“The procurement of insurance for CHAN 2025 was conducted within the framework of the CAF Host Agreement, which defines the structures and processes governing tournament operations, including the sourcing of key service providers,” he said.
“Accordingly, we state categorically that the required insurance cover for CHAN 2025 was procured by CAF, not myself, and was duly secured and maintained throughout the tournament.”
The FKF boss maintained that all contracted services were delivered as required and that there was no loss of funds under the insurance arrangements.
He further stated that FKF never directly paid for CHAN’s insurance, insisting that the process was fully managed by CAF.

Mohamed also said that he was aware of what he termed a coordinated smear campaign against him and the federation, aimed at damaging his reputation and undermining ongoing reforms.
He defended his leadership, saying he has built a long career in grassroots football development spanning over 25 years and has never been accused of misappropriation.
“Not once has anybody ever accused me of misappropriation. I have invested hundreds of millions in my projects over the years, which is known to the majority of the football stakeholders in the country. It is unfortunate that it takes only one day or one item to bring down 25 years of legacy, or at least an attempt to do so, which we will not allow,” he said.

Mohammed says CHAN probe is selective
He argued that focusing on him alone in the CHAN matter was selective, noting that multiple institutions and committees were involved in organizing the tournament.
“If you look at the structure of our organization or the LOC, why only pick Hussein Mohamed? ( How many other people are involved in organizing Chan? All the way from CAF to the LOC to the Secretariat to the FKAF, and it only picked Hussein Mohamed.
Hussein Mohamed added that he is ready to cooperate with any investigative agencies if required, but warned against what he called sustained false reporting.
Nine out of 14 NEC members signed the resolution directing FKF President Hussein Rashid Mohammed, NEC member Abdullahi Yussuf Ibrahim, and Acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru to vacate office temporarily to pave the way for investigations into alleged financial impropriety and procurement breaches.
The NEC members also resolved that all FKF bank accounts linked to signatories associated with the implicated officials be frozen immediately to protect public funds during the investigation period.
