The race to succeed Nick Mwendwa as the President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is heating up with the elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
Hussein Mohammed, one of the nine contestants has criticized the polling stations published by the FKF Electoral Board.
In a statement, Hussein raised concerns about the involvement of current chairmen in choosing the stations.
“I am deeply concerned by the statement released yesterday by the FKF Electoral Board regarding the announcement of polling stations.”
“It is troubling to see the board admit that the current chairmen many of whom are contesting were the ones to suggest these venues. This raises serious questions about the board’s independence,” he said.
Hussein emphasized that the integrity of any election process begins with transparency at every level, adding that it is alarming to see these concerns emerge at such a critical stage.
He demanded the Board address why current chairmen, who are also candidates, have a say in choosing polling venues.
The Presidential candidate also mentioned that some of the selected venues are known hotspots for violence, which is completely unacceptable.
“For the elections to be truly free, fair, and transparent, we demand that county headquarters be gazetted as polling stations,” he demanded.
According to Hussein, the FKF Electoral Board must steer clear of political influence and prove its independence.
He explained that the aim of all the contestants is to build Kenyan football on a foundation of integrity, and this electoral process is a vital step in that journey.
