IPOA Issues Update on Rex Shooting
On Saturday, June 22, IPOA mentioned that different investigative teams are looking into Rex Masai’s case. They noted that their team was working to identify the police officer believed to be responsible for shooting Masai.
“Another team from IPOA is in the process of identifying and confirming the suspected officer,” read the update in part.
Rex’s shooting was followed by a social media video, where people were seen running away from police officers trying to disperse a crowd around 7 pm that fateful day.
In the video, a plain clothed police officer is seen pulling out a gun and firing at the protesters. One of the bullets is said to have landed on Rex’s leg.

Upon Rex’s death, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) instructed IPOA to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The ODPP directed IPOA to complete the inquiry file and report within 21 days, demanding that IPOA to submit the final inquiry file and report within 21 days for further review.
