US President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Iran, stating that “it will only get worse,” and that the next Israeli attacks will be even “more brutal” following major strikes on the country’s nuclear and military sites.

In a statement released on his official X account on Friday June 13, Trump said he had given Iran “chance after chance” to make a deal.

“I told them, in the strongest of words, to “just do it,” but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn’t get it done,” he said.

“I told them it would be much worse than anything they know, anticipated, or were told, that the United States makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and that Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come and they know how to use it.”

Trump specifically referenced Iranian hardliners, stating that although they “spoke bravely,” they had no idea what was about to unfold. “They are all dead now, and it will only get worse!” he declared.

He went on to describe the aftermath of the Israeli strikes as involving “great death and destruction,” while cautioning that further action is imminent unless Iran chooses a different path.

“There is still time to make this slaughter— with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal—come to an end,” Trump added.

Trump stated that Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire.

“No more death, no more destruction, just do it, before it is too late,” he added.

Global oil prices experienced their largest single-day percentage surge in years, rising by as much as 7%, fueled by growing fears that an escalating conflict between Israel and Iran could severely disrupt global energy supplies.

Brent crude futures rose by $5.10 (KSh 663), or about 7.4%, to $74.46 (KSh 9,680) a barrel by 11:43 EAT, after reaching an intraday high of $78.50 (KSh 10,205) — the highest level since January 27.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was up $5.10 (KSh 663), or 7.5%, at $73.15 (KSh 9,510) a barrel, after hitting a high of $77.62 (KSh 10,090) — its highest since January 21.

According to Reuters, these are the biggest intraday gains for both benchmarks since March 2022, one month after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, Mohammad Bagheri, was killed after Israeli strikes on the country on Friday, June 13, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.

Mohammad Bagheri was Iran’s second-highest military official after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The strikes also killed Hossein Salami, the leader of Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported.

Mohammad Bagheri served as the chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, the top military position in the country.

In this role, he oversaw both Iran’s regular army (Artesh) and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to United Against Nuclear Iran group.

Israel launched a coordinated attack on Iran early Friday, targeting key nuclear facilities and defence sites.

The assault marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, with Israeli forces launching what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as a “very successful” wave of coordinated attacks.

In a video statement released later on Friday, Netanyahu declared the strikes to be just the beginning of a broader campaign.

“We carried out a very successful opening strike, and with God’s help, we will achieve much more,” Netanyahu said.

“We have hit the senior command, we have hit senior scientists who are promoting the development of atomic bombs, we have hit nuclear facilities.”

8:00am: US President Donald Trump administration has distanced itself from Israel’s attacks, while also warning Iran not to retaliate against US interests in the region.

“Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement.

“Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for its self-defence. President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target US interests or personnel,” Rubio said.

Trump later reiterated Rubio’s message, telling Fox News that the US is “hoping to get back to the negotiating table” with Iran.

9:00 am Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has vowed to give a “bitter and painful” end to Israel after it conducted strikes across Tehran, targeting its nuclear and military sites.

“Israel opened its wicked and blood-stained hand to a crime in our beloved country, revealing its malicious nature more than ever by striking residential centres,” Khamenei said in the statement.

“With this crime, the Zionist regime has set itself up for a bitter and painful fate, and it will receive it,” he added.

9:05 am: Iran had launched 100 drones in response towards Israel whose defences were working to intercept, the Israeli military said.

10:10 am UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has called on Israel and Iran to “step back” from the brink of all-out war.

Stammer warned both countries that “escalation serves no one in the region”.

“The reports of these strikes are concerning, and we urge all parties to step back and reduce tensions urgently. Escalation serves no one in the region,” he said.

“Stability in the Middle East must be the priority, and we are engaging partners to de-escalate. Now is the time for restraint, calm and a return to diplomacy.”

10:50 am: Israel Intercepts Iranian Drones Over Syria. Effie Defrin, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson, confirmed that the drones were shot down before reaching Israeli territory, as part of heightened military vigilance.

In neighboring Jordan, heightened tensions prompted authorities to activate an airstrike siren in the capital, Amman. The Jordanian Directorate of Public Security has called on citizens to remain indoors and comply with the official safety guidelines.

“Do not gather in the streets or approach any unidentified objects that may have fallen,” the Directorate warned in a public advisory.

11:00am: Israel airlines start evacuating planes. EL AL, Israir and Arkia move aircraft out of Israel to other countries like Cyprus and Europe after widespread strikes against Iran.
