Businessman and politician Jimi Wanjigi has raised an alarm over the presence of unmarked vehicles in the vicinity of his home in Muthaiga.
In a statement on Friday, Wanjigi said that the unmarked vehicles have been seen around his home for the past one week.
The businessman asked “Why are unmarked vehicles outside my residence in Muthaiga for the last one week? This is clearly harassment on me and my family, this surveillance is unprecedented!”
He went on to lament that, “These vehicles are jamming all communication to my residence!”
Wanjigi has been in the headlines recently accusing the government of harassment. His home was raided on August 8 during the aftermath of the Gen Z protests that saw nationwide demonstrations against the government.
At the time of his home being raided, William Ruto‘s government was conducting a crackdown trying to figure out who was financing the protests.
In a press conference Wanjigi on September 3, 2024, the businessman blamed Ruto for his woes saying, “Ruto am coming for you”.
A court ruling barred the invasion or trespassing on his Muthaiga home by the police pending determination of an application by his wife Irene Wanjigi.
Justice Omido ruled that the court had granted “an order restraining the defendants or anyone acting under their instructions, behest, direction or authority from committing any acts of assault against the plaintiffs.”
The Controversy of Unmarked Vehicles in Kenya
Unmarked vehicles have been spotted in Nairobi especially after the Gen-Z protests started in the country as the government strived to control the mayhem of the protests that called for accountability for those in public offices.

Cases of abductions allegedly linked to the government have also been reported, with Kenyans accusing the government of going after its own people.
In August, three individuals from Kitengela Jamil Longton, Aslam Longton, and Brian Njagi vanished together after they were reportedly taken by individuals in suits who claimed to be police officers from Nairobi but provided no reason for the arrests.
They were reportedly arrested and detained incommunicado after actively participating in efforts to oppose the withdrawn Finance Bill 2024.

These alleged abductions have landed Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli in trouble. On Friday, September 13, the court sentenced Masengeli to six months in prison for contempt of court. He failed to show up in court on several occasions to answer to the Kitengela abductions claims.
Consequently, Justice Lawrence Mugambi found it desirable to impose the verdict as a coercive order as opposed to a punitive order.
“In that regard Masengeli might avoid serving this sentence and therefore in that regard the court shall suspend this sentence for seven days only,” Mugambi added.
