Biography
Jimi Wanjigi is a Kenyan businessman and political strategist. He serves as the CEO of Kwacha Group of Companies, a privately owned family office with investments spanning multiple sectors of the Kenyan economy, including agribusiness, financial services, industrials, and real estate.
He is however best known for being the key political strategist for Raila
Early life and Education of Jimi Wanjigi
Jimi Richard Wanjigi was born into a family with strong ties to Kenyan politics. His father, James Maina Wanjigi, was a prominent figure, serving as the Kamukunji Member of Parliament and as a Cabinet Minister during President Jomo Kenyatta’s administration.
As such, this political lineage laid the foundation for Jimiās future pursuits, although he initially opted for a more behind-the-scenes role.
He is an alumnus of the prestigious St. Maryās School in Nairobi, Wanjigi ventured into business at an early age. He joined Daystar University for his higher learning and has since completed his studies.
Wanjigi has ventured into the business world, gradually building a reputation as a successful entrepreneur with vast interests across various sectors of the economy.
Business and political involvement
Wanjigi’s business expertise and deep connections within the political sphere have made him a pivotal figure in shaping Kenya’s political landscape.
Jimi played an important role in the 2002, election campaign of the late former President Mwai Kibaki, who triumphed over Uhuru Kenyatta, the candidate backed by the outgoing President Daniel Arap Moi.
Consequently, Wanjigi’s influence in the political arena continued to expand, and by 2013, he asserted that he played a crucial role in backing the Jubilee Coalition, which ultimately led to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s rise to power.
However, his relationship with the Jubilee administration deteriorated in 2014, prompting him to shift camp and declare his support to Raila Odinga’s National Super Alliance (NASA) during the 2017 elections.
Jimi Wanjigi’s political ambitions have not been without challenges, including legal battles with the Director of Criminal Investigations over the firearms seized from his home in 2017 and allegations of fraud concerning land acquisition.
