Construction of a 30-kilometre road linking Chepkorio Township, Kaplimo and Kipsaina in Keiyo South Constituency is set to proceed under a KSh1.8 billion project launched by President William Ruto during his North Rift development tour.
The road project is part of a wider KSh20 billion investment aimed at constructing 200 kilometres of roads across Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The launch, conducted on the third day of the President’s tour, places transport infrastructure among the key development priorities highlighted during his engagements in the county.
The 30-kilometre route is expected to improve road connectivity between the areas it links. Depending on the final design, construction standards and implementation, improved road access can help ease movement for residents, traders and other road users.

Better connectivity can also support the movement of agricultural produce and other goods, although the supplied project details did not specify the road’s expected travel-time savings, traffic volumes or projected economic returns.
The Chepkorio Township-Kaplimo-Kipsaina road is one component of the countywide infrastructure programme, which has a stated target of delivering 200 kilometres of roads at a cost of KSh20 billion.
The KSh1.8 billion allocation for the 30-kilometre section represents a substantial investment in the local road network.
The project’s eventual impact will depend on implementation, construction quality, maintenance and the extent to which the completed route meets local transport needs.
During the same visit, Ruto inspected a 380-unit affordable housing project, flagged off a KSh632 million electricity connectivity initiative and inspected the construction of a modern market designed to accommodate 200 traders.

The projects address different infrastructure needs within the constituency, from housing and household electricity access to transport and trading facilities.
For residents, the immediate issue will be the commencement and progress of construction, including the availability of information on the project schedule and any arrangements affecting access during the works.
The Government’s stated county target is to construct 200 kilometres of roads through the KSh20 billion investment. The Chepkorio-Kaplimo-Kipsaina project will contribute 30 kilometres towards that target once delivered.
The launch marks the start of the project; completion dates and implementation milestones were not provided in the information released during the tour.
