Mary Mulili has spent more than 20 years working in Kenya’s banking industry, building experience in corporate, commercial, public sector, institutional, SME, retail and digital banking.
She is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Kenya Bank Limited, having previously served as the bank’s Executive Director.
Mary Mulili is the institution’s first female Chief Executive Officer. She took over the role in January 2024.
Her career has taken her through senior positions in several commercial banks, giving her experience in different areas of banking and business development.
Mary Mulili: The Banking Veteran Leading UBA Kenya
Before becoming UBA Kenya’s MD and CEO, Mulili held senior and executive positions at several financial institutions.
She previously worked at the Bank of Africa, where she managed the Kenya Business Unit strategies for business growth in the Corporate, Commercial Banking, SME/Retail and Transactional Banking.
At KCB, she served as the Senior Corporate Relationship Manager.
In addition, Mary Mulili was also the Head of Corporate Banking & Commercial Banking at GT Bank and African Banking Cooperation in Kenya.
In this role, she oversaw new business-oriented initiatives and introduced SACCO partnerships with SACCOS into the country’s payment system.
Mary Mulili has worked with corporate and commercial clients as well as businesses and individual customers, gaining experience across several parts of the banking industry.
Her work in the sector has also earned her a Head of State’s Commendation for her service to the country.
At UBA Kenya, Mulili first served as Executive Director before moving into the bank’s top leadership position.

Her work outside the bank
Mary Mulili also holds leadership positions outside UBA Kenya.
She is a Commissioner at the Kenya Meat Commission and chairs its Audit Committee.
The UBA CEO is a board member of the Kenya Association of Women Business Owners (KAWBO), which supports women in business.
Mulili is also the Vice Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce Kenya’s Banking Commission.
Education
Mulili holds an MBA in Finance, a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a focus on Accounting and Economics, and a diploma in Business Management.
She has also taken part in leadership programmes as part of her continued professional development.
Her academic background combines finance and business training with accounting and economics.

Her Work in the Community
Outside her banking career, Mulili is involved in several organizations and community initiatives.
She is a member of Rotary, TCM Foundation, WECREATE and Junior Achievement.
Her involvement in these organizations has added another dimension to her work beyond the banking sector.
Mulili’s career has covered a wide range of banking services, from corporate and institutional banking to SMEs, retail and digital banking.
Her rise through senior positions at different financial institutions eventually brought her to the leadership of UBA Kenya.
With more than two decades in the industry, she is among the women holding senior leadership positions in Kenya’s banking sector.
