Graduates from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) will not be receiving their certificates after graduation any time soon.
The institution has postponed the issuance of certificates for its 43rd graduation class, held on November 29, 2024.
In a notice released by the university’s Registrar for Academic Affairs, Dr. Aggrey Wanyama, JKUAT noted that the move is due to unavoidable circumstances.
Further, the notice stated that the decision would affect graduates from the School of Communication and Development Studies (SCDS).
Students who graduated from the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SOBE) will also not receive their certificates.

JKUAT Issues Way Forward for the Students
Although JKUAT has assured graduates that new dates will be communicated in due course, there is no clear indication of when the certificates will be ready.
However, the university has apologized for the inconvenience. This means that graduates who were waiting for the documents to apply for jobs and other opportunities will have to wait.
“Reference is made to the memo dated 10th December 2024 in respect to the collection of certificates. This is to inform you that due to unavoidable circumstances, the issuance of certificates to graduates of the following schools has been postponed.
“New dates will be communicated in due course. We apologize for the inconveniences caused by this postponement,” the statement read in part.

JKUAT University is a public university located in Juja, 36 kilometers northeast of Nairobi, along the Nairobi-Thika Superhighway. It was established in1981 as a middle level college with the assistance of the Japanese government.

TUK Graduating Class Discover Course Uncredited
In a separate incident, students from the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) in 2024 learnt days before their graduation that a course they had been pursuing, Public Health, had not been accredited.
They learnt of the problem after the Public Health Degree and Diploma students began seeking placements for their mandatory attachments.
The university had not fulfilled certain requirements, including furnishing and organizing the school laboratory with the necessary equipment, having the lecturers recognized by the PHOTC board, and ensuring the lecturers follow the correct curriculum as directed by the board.
