Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor has revealed what killed, 54-year-old senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer, Tom Adala, who was found dead at his residence in Kilimani.
Speaking to local media, Dr. Oduor confirmed that the senior officer died by suicide, putting to rest doubts about what caused his death in some quarters.
According to an autopsy conducted at the Lee Funeral Home, Adala died from a single gunshot wound to the head that was self-inflicted.
“It was a single gunshot wound that killed the NIS officer, it looks like self-inflicted, so most likely it was suicide.”
“The bullet entered on the right side of the head and exited on the left side,” explained Dr. Oduor.
Tom Adala Is Found Dead
Adala, an Assistant Director at NIS headquarters in Ruaraka, had reportedly been battling depression.

His nephew Francis Oduor found his lifeless body inside the servant quarters of his home in Kilimani estate after he failed to show up for breakfast on Tuesday morning.
The police recovered Adala’s Glock 19 pistol, a spent cartridge, and a magazine loaded with three rounds at the scene.
In addition to the physical evidence, a suicide note was found in Adala’s bedroom.
News about Tom Adala’s death rocked the nation as Kenyans took to social media to eulogize the late public servant while some speculated about the cause of his death.
Suicide Note Reveals What Led to His Death
A note recovered from his house, written in a black notebook, revealed that Adala had been struggling with various issues, one being his ongoing divorce with his estranged wife.
Adala’s colleagues who spoke to the press further revealed that the separation had taken a toll on him, causing a lot of stress and pain.

They noted that the situation was worsened by his recent transfer to the Counter-Extremism Violence Unit, which he felt was a demotion.
They noticed his absenteeism after being appointed to head the unit and he even informed them of his intention to resign, but they talked him out of it.
Additionally, the note instructed his children, who live with his estranged wife, to visit his grave often and emphasized that nobody should be blamed for his death.
