Former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua is one happy lad after finally being discharged from the Mathari Mental Hospital.
The Kenya Times has learnt that Kimani Mbugua was officially discharged and allowed to go home on Sunday, October 16.
News about Kimani Mbugua’s discharge from the mental health facility was first made public by himself through his Instagram page.
In an Insta-stories update seen by The Kenya Times, Kimani thanked Kenyans for their concern and prayers.
Kimani Mbugua disclosed that his mother picked him up from the hospital and took him home where he is currently relaxing as he looks to make a comeback.
The journalist revealed he will be at his mother’s place for a while as he tries to sort out his life.
”Thank you all for your prayers and concern. My mum came to get me out of Mathari. I am now living with her at her house in Murang’a as I try to get my life in order,”Kimani Mbugua wrote.
The latest development comes barely a week after Kimani Mbugua came out to plead with Kenyans to help him talk to his parents who had neglected him at the Mathari Mental Hospital.

As earlier reported by The Kenya Times, Kimani had been admitted to the hospital and was discharged but his parents refused to pick him up.
The journalist insisted that his parents had decided to neglect him at the hospital just to punish him.
“I appeal to all people who know me to kindly appeal to my parents to let me out of Mathari Hospital. I came here after a brief psychotic episode on August 4 and was discharged on the 10th of the same month. My parents have left me here to punish me,” Kimani wrote.
His claims, however, were refuted by his mother who confirmed doctors had advised his extended stay at the hospital.
