Political analyst Prof Fred Ogolla has advised Azimio principals Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka to declare their interest for the presidency in the next general elections.
Appearing on KTN News, Prof Ogolla said this is a strategic move that will help the Coalition retain its strongholds and grassroots support.
“All the people in Azimio must say they are running; it is strategic because immediately someone says they are not contesting the ground shifts.
So, to keep every ground active, Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua and even Peter Kenneth must say they are going for presidency,” said Prof Ogolla.
Further, Prof Ogolla explained that this will help the political leaders keep their strongholds intact ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Additionally, he advised all the leaders to campaign for the presidency, retain their support and back one candidate.
“Everyone should say they are running so that their basis remains active and then in the end they can say I have kept my base, and I am giving it to you,” he explained.
Moreover, he said the voters quickly forget about politicians who fail to declare their interest for the presidency.

Raila, Kalonzo 2022 Campaigns
Prof Ogolla criticized Azimio 2022 campaigns stating that he was neither strategic nor appealing.
On the other hand, Prof Ogolla said President William Ruto was so focused and intentional with his campaigns.
The analyst stated that everything about Azimio campaigns was confusing, and this prevented Raila from conveying his agendas to the people.
“With Raila, everything was confusing. There was too much noise around him that you could get what he was saying,” said Prof Ogolla.
In addition, he said voters could easily relate with Azimio’s campaign strategy since it was too logical.
“Even marketing you don’t have to be very logical; it is about emotions. People relate with the product based on emotions not logic,” emphasized Prof Ogolla.

Raila Changing Tact
Also, Prof Ogolla mentioned that the ODM leader cannot change his political strategy which has made him lose the previous elections.
“I don’t think he is ready to change because he is too loyal, that is why he sticks with the friends who has made him lose elections,” said Prof Ogolla.
Further, he said Azimio must have a serious discussion around allowing Raila to be their presidential candidate in 2027.
