BIOGRAPHY
Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is a veteran Kenyan politician, Wiper Party Leader, and lawyer.
Educational Background
Kalonzo Musyoka studied at Tseikuru primary school between 1972 and 1973 and later joined Kitui high school for his O levels from 1968 to 1971.
In 1972, Kalonzo Musyoka joined Meru high school for his A-level education. He later joined the University of Nairobi and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in law in 1977 after which he received his diploma at the Kenya School of Law in 1978.
Furthermore, he received a postgraduate diploma in business management at the Mediterranean Institute of Management in Cyprus in 1981.
Family Life of Kalonzo Musyoka
Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka was born in Tseikuru in Mwingi District in Kenya’s Eastern Province. He is married to Pauline Musyoka. He has four children namely, Klein Kalonzo, James Nzilu Musyoka and Lilian Koki Mutui. Not much is in the limelight about his family.
Life in Politics
In 1983, Kalonzo Musyoka contested for the Kitui North Constituency parliamentary seat but lost. Two years later, in 1985, the Kitui North seat was vacated, and he won the by-elections and became Kitui North Member of Parliament. In 1997, Kalonzo Musyoka served as the Mwingi North Constituency Member of Parliament.
He served as the tenth vice president of Kenya in 2008 to 2013 under the late retired president Mwai Kibaki’s reign. Moreover, Kalonzo has served in the government in different capacities.
He was the Secretary of Kenya African National Union party, Assistant Minister for Works, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1993 until 1998, and Minister of Education under the late retired president Daniel arap Moi’s tenure. Afterwards, he served under the late President Mwai Kibaki as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2003 to 2004, then Minister of the Environment from 2004 to 2005.
He then unsuccessfully vied for presidency in the 2007 general elections after which he was appointed vice-president by the late President Mwai Kibaki in January 2008.
Kalonzo is currently the leader of Wiper Democratic Party an affiliate of the Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
