NARC Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua, renowned for her trademark locks and vibrant Kitenge attires, has revealed the inspiration behind her style, rooted deeply in her African identity.
With a strong calling to uphold and celebrate African values, Karua advocates for a cultural resurgence, emphasizing the power embedded within these traditions.
“I think there is a move for people to embrace culture, and I have seen it even with the younger generation.” she said.
Speaking on the Savage Politics show hosted by former MP Cyrus Jirongo, Karua articulated her journey to self-acceptance, recounting how the pressure to conform initially led her to alter her appearance.
However, she ultimately found solace and authenticity in embracing her natural self, symbolized by her locks.

Karua invoked the spirit of Sankara, advocating for a revival of his ethos to propel African growth and self-reliance.
She scrutinizes government actions that undermine cultural practices, citing examples like the suppression of Kikuyu shrines, which she deemed contrary to the constitution and reminiscent of colonial subjugation.
