19-year-old 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate, Calistus Wamboye Oteu, has died.
Calistus was a student at Ebubere Secondary School in Mumias East Constituency, Kakamega County
According to his family, Calistus and his sibling, who is also sitting for the same national examination, left home in good health on Tuesday morning.
However, he reportedly died in class as he awaited to sit his exams.
Moreover, his family has maintained that he had not shown any signs of illness, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.

Eight Teachers Arrested Over KCSE Cheating
At the same time, police officers in Homa Bay County have arrested eight teachers from Pala Masogo Secondary School in Homa Bay Sub-County.
According to the police, the teachers were involved in alleged exam malpractice.
They were reportedly caught photocopying a Chemistry exam paper within the school compound on Monday, November 4.
Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Emmanuel Kiplagat confirmed the arrests, explaining that the exam paper was meant for a hospitalized student.
The individuals arrested include the school’s centre manager, invigilators, and teachers employed by the school’s Board of Management.
Also, Kiplagat stated that all evidence had been seized and would be used in the case against the suspects.

Previously Reported Death
Meru County Commissioner Jacob Juma announced on Monday, November 4, that a candidate passed away on the night of Sunday, November 3.
At the same time, he noted that two girls were sitting for their first day of KCSE in hospital after giving birth in Meru County.
“We have lost one male student who is from Tigania West. We also have two female students who were expectant, and they gave birth at Meru Hospital,” Juma said.
In another tragedy, Abel Mwendwa, a KCSE student at Katelembo Center of Excellence High School died on October 20.
Abel drowned while swimming at a dam near the school. He was returning home when the incident occurred.
