Kenya Airways PLC (KQ) has announced changes in the senior management of the company effective September 1.
In a notice on August 30, the national carrier’s board of directors confirmed the appointment of Hellen Mathuka and Mary Mwenga.
“In line with Rule 11 of the Thirteenth Schedule to the 2023 Regulations, the Board of Directors of Kenya Airways PLC (the “Company”) wishes to announce the following changes in the senior management of the Company,” the notice read.
The airline revealed the appointment of Hellen as the Chief Strategy and innovation Officer.
“Mrs. Hellen Mathuka has been appointed as the Chief Strategy and innovation Officer with effect from September 2024,” the statement read.
Hellen who joined KQ in 2009 has held various roles in Audit, Revenue Management and Finance, rising through the ranks to become the Chief Financial Officer.
Before joining Kenya Airways, Hellen worked at East African Breweries Ltd, Ernst & Young and Family Bank.

Kenya Airways Chief Strategy Qualifications
Hellen holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Kenyatta University and an MBA (Strategic Management) from United States International University.
In addition, she is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA(K)), Certified Internal Auditor, Certified information Systems Auditor, and certification in Control Self-Assessment.
Likewise, Mrs. Mathuka holds a Diploma in Airline Management from IATA, and certificate in executive business development from Gordon institute of Business Management.
Additionally, she is a certified coach and mentor.

Mary Mwenga
Kenya Airways also appointed Ms. Mary Mwenga as the Acting Chief Financial Officer.
Mary brings over 20 years’ experience in Finance, 15 of which have been in the aviation industry.
She has held several positions in the Company including Acting Head of Supply Chain & Facilities, and Head of Finance.
Until her appointment, Mwenga served as the Head of Business Performance & Reporting at the Company, reporting to the CFO.
Prior to joining Kenya Airways, she was the Chief Accountant for Flamingo Airlines Ltd (now Jambojet Limited) and worked as an Audit Senior at Ernst & Young.
Mary holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and MBA degree majoring in Finance, from Kenyatta University.
She is also a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA(K)) and has completed several leadership and certification trainings both locally and internationally.
